Health Insurance Coverage Check List For Traveling

Don't assume that your medical insurance [policy covers medical care you receive outside the United  Stated. To protect yourself ageist unforeseen and perhaps costly medical charges, take these steps.

  • Check with your insurance carrier to see if you're covered when aboard, or if they offer health insurance for travelers.
  • If your insurance doesn't fully cover you way from home, you nay be able to purchase traveler's health insurance through a major credit card company.
  • If you're traveling with a package tour that offers a health insurance option, consider purchasing it. Some plans also cover the cost of returning home in case of an emergency.
  • Find out if your policy places any restrictions on coverage. Some insurance companies do not cover chronic illness, complications during the third trimester of pregnancy, or sports-related injuries.
  • Before you go on your trip, check with your doctor about your prescriptions you might bring along. If, for example, you're traveling with a child who is prone to ear infections, bring along the Rx for amoxicillin ... or better yet, fill the Rx before you leave and bring along the medication. Better to have it and not use it and need it and not have it.

Health Insurance With High Deductibles and Low Premiums

Never be without health insurance. High deductibles with low premiums are recommended if you are and plan to remain healthy, because this type of coverage is for the big catastrophic events. One uninsured catastrophic illness or accident could wipe out everything you have saved and planned for.
