Health Insurance Coverage Check List For Traveling
Don't assume that your medical insurance [policy
covers medical care you receive outside the United
Stated. To protect yourself ageist unforeseen and
perhaps costly medical charges, take these steps.
-
Check with your insurance carrier
to see if you're covered when aboard, or if they
offer health insurance for travelers.
-
If your insurance doesn't fully
cover you way from home, you nay be able to purchase
traveler's health insurance through a major credit
card company.
-
If you're traveling with a package
tour that offers a health insurance option, consider
purchasing it. Some plans also cover the cost of
returning home in case of an emergency.
-
Find out if your policy places any
restrictions on coverage. Some insurance companies
do not cover chronic illness, complications during
the third trimester of pregnancy, or sports-related
injuries.
-
Before you go on your trip, check
with your doctor about your prescriptions you might
bring along. If, for example, you're traveling with
a child who is prone to ear infections, bring along
the Rx for amoxicillin ... or better yet, fill the
Rx before you leave and bring along the medication.
Better to have it and not use it and need it and not
have it.
Health Insurance With High Deductibles and Low
Premiums
Never be without health insurance. High deductibles
with low premiums are recommended if you are and plan to
remain healthy, because this type of coverage is for the
big catastrophic events. One uninsured catastrophic
illness or accident could wipe out everything you have
saved and planned for.
